My Drum stick!

I have been a vegetarian for about 10 years now. While I'm really not a "Peta" kinda guy and still think people who want to should still eat meat even though I don't, today's pondering has put a smile on my face.

With that said, let me tell you that I have begun my fall travel season which means that my office is my car. Yes the driving sometimes sucks, but what office can compete with my view now that the fall palette is among us.

The sunrise and sunset, Chicago skyline, winding roads with tress, corn and fresh air are all here to show me why I love this season.

As I was pondering all these great things, I, hungry from not eating breakfast (something that seldomly happens because I do believe b-fast is the best and most important meal of the day) made a quick stop at the local Meijer near McHenry, IL.

Entering the store and with a stomach announcing his complaint to the world, I quickly headed to the snack section quickly feasting my eyes on the prize...caramel apples.

These are one of my favorite treats. Going back to whence I first delighted on such a decadent and delicious snack (3rd grade), I have no better way of explaining what the fall season means to me.

Sweet (caramel) because the tempeture is warm and cool, perfect, and the trees are in colorful transition. Sour (apple) because the weather is becoming chilly, yet the sweetness carefully allows us to prepare for winter. And crunchy (crushed peanuts) ...well...because you can't really have a caramel apple without peanuts...unless you're allergic.

Either way, the caramel apple makes me smile.

With that said, it was in the parking lot at Meijer, while masticating such a delicious snack, that I was hit with an epiphany...the caramel apple is the vegetarian man's drumstick.

While I'm not looking for meat equivalents, it's good to know that my meat eating instincts are still being put to good use.
