The birds and the bees and my garden

As you can see from the pictures above, much has happened to my garden in the past two months. My garden is blossoming quite well. This summer I have spent many hours tending to this little garden and really learning about the crazy life of vegetables. I have spent many hours reading and learning all that I can about making this garden the best it can be but also planning next year's crop. It's crazy, but since I planted the seeds, this garden has been my little baby. Every morning I have gone out there to look at it, check its leaves, weeded, and have been waiting for the fruits of my labor to show up. This has been my morning prayer. The peacefulness of the morning, the birds, the bees and bugs going from plant to plant...it's amazing to see God's hand in all of this.

Already I have eaten green beans, green tomatillos and chillies. My beets are getting plump as we speak, my sweet peas are on their way, and the pumpkin, zucchini, and squash flowers are blossoming.

Which leads me to what I thought was a dilemma:

Earlier this summer, I had learned that the honey bee population was dwindling and the pollination process was going to be tougher. Because of this and because I started my garden much later than usual I was afraid that meant no pumpkins this season. I even thought about "helping" my plants along. After learning what I would have to do to help them, I decided I would rather give it the weekend while I went away for camping and fun near good old Normal.

After the weekend, I came back and snooped in the garden with good news... a few of them are on their way and all is well with the natural pollinators.

I'm so glad because I didn't really want to have anything to do with any of that business!

oh raul.. i thought you were looking forward to initiating some pumpkin love.

maybe you can paint a bob ross inspired painting of your garden? or would you need to be incarcerated to channel that kind of creepy, sedated happiness?

Raul this comes as now surprise to me; I have known you to be "The Great Pollinator" for some time.

You're right Battey. I am the great pollinator (sung to the music of smooth operator) even though my "Illigit" lost the battle for next Newman baby...Skittles!
